Where the IPs
actually come from.

ISP addresses are leased directly from the carriers themselves — Comcast, AT&T, Frontier and similar — under a commercial subnet agreement, then routed to hardware we run in a data center. The address is genuinely registered to a consumer ISP, which is why a lookup reports it as residential, but no home connection or home user is involved. Nobody's router is being borrowed.

Residential is the one that deserves the most scrutiny, because it's the one where a shortcut would mean using someone's connection without their knowledge. Ours works like this:

• Opt-in only. Every peer in the network installed software — a free VPN, a utility app, an SDK bundled into a partner product — that discloses, in its own terms, that idle bandwidth can be shared in exchange for the free service or direct compensation.
• Idle only. The network only routes traffic through a device while it's idle and has bandwidth to spare — it doesn't compete with the person's own use of their connection.
• Revocable. A peer can uninstall the app or flip the setting off at any time, immediately removing their address from the pool.
• No content access. The network relays your request; it doesn't read, log or modify what's inside it, and the peer device never sees what a customer sends through it.

• Bundle a peer SDK into software without disclosing it in that software's own terms.
• Route traffic through a device without the ability for its owner to opt out.
• Buy or resell IP blocks scraped from misconfigured routers or hacked devices.
• Resell an ISP address to more than one customer during the same term.
